Toy Story Racer

For this review we go all the way back to 2001. The year in which Toy Story racer has been released on the Playstation 1. Developed by Traveller’s Tales and Tiertex Design Studios.

Funniest racing game ever!?
I have been a big fan of Toy Story my entire life. When I first saw Toy Story 1 it got me hooked, and who can deny after seeing this movie they fantasised about their toys coming to life when they are not around?

With all the Toy Story game releases this game stood out the most for me. Not only were there alot of character to pick in this game, but the challenges are fun and pretty challenging as well.

This game has a total of 200 challenges. Every character has a different amount of challenges and some challenges can unlock new characters to play with. These challenges can be normal races, battles games, but even collection challenges. These last can be very frustrating to find all the hidden clowns or dart boards within a certain amount of time.

My favorite challenges are the knockout races. In these challenges you have to race, but also can knockout enemies by hitting them with power-ups. You don’t need to knockout everyone in this challenge, as long as you finish first within a time limit and survive.

Here is a livestream of a few challenges and unlocking a new character

For those who think that the challenges are very easy, they will get harder over time. They start pretty easy, but over time you get less time to do more stuff or even clowns are hidden in places you even didn’t know were accessible.

Like Mario Kart, but for kids
Eventhough Mario Kart already is for kids, this game is a very fun game for kids. Challenges can be hard, but there are alot of different challenges to play. The local multiplayer option is very well done, and can be fun for hours.

I have played this game on the Playstation 1 and still play it on a emulator, but Sony also has released the game as “virtual console” game on the Playstation 3. No memory cards needed, and it’s fun to play this old classic game on the playstation once again.

I’m still hoping that this game will be remastered, or remade for the Playstation 4. Because a game with this many different challenges deserves a shoutout.

Yay or nay?
I would recommend everyone that’s looking for a fun, racing game to check this game out on the PS3, or buy the game on Ebay and play it on a Playstation Emulator if you haven’t played this game yet.

Zombie Driver Ultimate Edition

Zombie Driver Ulticover_zombieDriverUltimateEditionmate Edition is a game developed and published by Exor Studios. The original Zombie Driver was released five and a half years ago on Steam. After a couple of years Exor Studios released a new version of Zombie Driver called Zombie Driver HD. This version contained visual upgrades with new ingame items like cars, longer story mode and three new types of enemies.

On July 1st of 2014, Exor Studios released Zombie Driver Ultimate Edition thanks to the ID@Xbox program.

The story contains 31 missions. There was a good variety between the missions. As example there is a mission in which you have to save a couple of firefighters and the missions after that one is a missions in which you control a firetruck and have to extinguish fires.

The story also includes a couple of boss fights, which can be difficult, because they deal alot of damage. If you keep upgrading your weapons and cars you will be fine though.

During the game you will be unlocking new cars and new weapons. In story mode you can upgrade your cars and weapons by collecting money. Money can be collected by completing objectives. These objectives can be to kill and insane amount of zombies, or complete a mission in an certain amount of time.

Blood Race
In the game mode “Blood Race” you can buy upgrades with the money you earn when winning an event. You can unlock cars by winning events as well.

Blood Race contains a few different events. There is a normal race event, an event in which you have a bomb and have to reach checkpoints in order to keep the bomb from exploding. There also is an event in which you have to race, but you also need to destroy other drivers.

Slaugther mode
In the “Slaughter” game mode you earn upgrades by surviving. In this mode you drive around on a map and with each wave more zombies will enter the map. During completing these waves the game will drop new car upgrades or weapon upgrades which can be obtained by picking them up.

You will get a rating when your car gets destroyed. If your rating is good enough you will unlock a new level or car.

Slaugther mode is my favorite mode in this game. I have spent alot of times in Slaugther mode in the original game and the HD remake. Even on this Ultimate Edition it doesn’t disappoints me.

The game ALMOST doesn’t contain any bugs. Sadly the only bug I encountered was the bug in which I flew over the road getting stuck in a “grass bank”. This results in a car that can’t be controlled. This is very frustrating when it happens during a Blood Race event or a story mission with a time limit. The bug here was that the car doesn’t reset itself, but you have to wait till the car reaches the other end of the bank.

JosWeb Score (0/100):
The game is alot of fun, it can be played for hours with the Blood Race and Slaughter mode. The story is fun for 2/3 hours if you don’t die during any of the missions. The Boss fights and obtaining every bonus objective can be challenging.

The bug I talked about above isn’t that game breaking to not buy the game, but can be frustrating when it happens. A simple car reset would fix it.

Eventhough I’m a big fan of Zombie Driver and Zombie Driver HD, I kinda hoped that Zombie Driver Ultimate Edition added some new stuff to the game. It’s a fun game, but after playing Zombie Driver and Zombie Driver HD, this wouldn’t be on top of my wishlist, but it still would be on the wishlist though. I really hope Exor Studios will make a Zombie Driver 2 in the future.

Super Toy Cars

Super Toy Cars is an arcade, combat racing game. The tracks are made of everyday objects and the cars are toylike. Pickup powerups and race yourself to the first place!

It will take some time to get used to the controls of Super Toy Cars. When you finally get used to the controls this game can be really fun.

With local Co-op option up to 4 players and online multiplayer up to 8 players this game will have many hours of fun.

There are 16 different cars, all with unique handling models. So it will take some time to get used to every car. The variety in tracks are very good. There are 12 different tracks spread over 4 different locations. From just a inside toy track to an outside racing track.

There are a bunch of powerups. A few of the powerups are the magic 8 ball and a rocket (see picture below). While the rockets will lock to 1 driver and follow him, the magic 8 ball will just roll forward destroying all the cars in it’s way.

Drifting will fill your boost bar. When the bar is filled you can use it to get a boost. Make sure you hit something else this boost could reset your car.

What grinds my gears
To make this game a fast racing game, the game will reset your car when you don’t make any speed anymore. This is something I don’t really like. When I brake to make a turn and someone drives me into the wall, my car will be reset putting me in different location. That’s something I didn’t like, but didn’t bother me that much.

It’s a cool racing game and with a track editor, offline and online multiplayer this game will be fun for a few hours. The automatic resetting is something I didn’t like in this game. Overall it’s an enjoyable racing game that’s also fun for everyone!
